Innov8tif Solutions, an identification document (ID) assurance solutions provider based in Subang Jaya, Selangor, has achieved a significant milestone with the official patenting in the United States of its latest ID verification technology.

According to innov8tif’s announcement, the patent (US 12026932.B2), issued on 2 July 2024, represents a breakthrough in the field of document security feature authentication using smartphone cameras.

This development comes at a crucial time when identity theft, particularly those involving fake identification documents, are on the rise.

According to Law Tien Soon, Deputy CEO at Innov8tif Solutions:

Existing identity verification systems may encounter challenges with poorly taken user-submitted images of ID documents. Our newly patented technology seeks to address these issues by ensuring a more reliable and accurate authentication process through real-time video processing and advanced algorithmic techniques.

The newly patented technology leverages real-time video processing and sophisticated algorithms to verify the authenticity of ID cards.

It does so by utilising security holograms, which are authenticated based on their position when reflected by a light source.

The process begins with capturing a live video feed of the ID card, illuminated by a directed light source to highlight the security hologram.

The real-time video feed is then converted into multiple image sequences for detailed analysis.

Each image is meticulously examined to detect the presence of the light source’s reflection and the security hologram, ensuring that their positions align with the directed light source.

This method guarantees the authenticity of the ID by confirming that the photo has not been tampered with or falsified.

Additionally, the technology employs algorithms to generate randomly designated light source positions, further enhancing the authentication process.

This innovative solution is designed to combat the growing issue of counterfeit ID cards and identity theft.

It is particularly beneficial for industries that require stringent identity checks, such as financial institutions and government agencies.

In 2021, this company also received a patent by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO) for its artificial intelligence (AI)-based technology to verify the authenticity of the Malaysian identity document.
