TikTok Malaysia is taking significant steps to enhance its moderation technology and community guidelines to better protect users from cyberbullying.
Anuar Fariz Fadzil, TikTok Malaysia’s head of public policy, emphasised the platform’s commitment to removing any content that violates community guidelines, including videos or comments containing foul language, swear words, or threats, according to FMT.
Despite already meeting all regulatory and legal requirements, the popular social media platform is accelerating its efforts to detect and prevent cyberbullying more effectively.
Recently, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil criticised TikTok’s handling of cyberbullying complaints, describing it as very disappointing and suggesting that the platform was not taking the issue seriously.
In response, Anuar rejected this assertion, stating that TikTok has a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying.
He highlighted the company’s efforts to increase resources in Malaysia to better identify and address cases of cyberbullying, particularly within the local context.
Anuar underscored the importance of early detection to prevent further victims from suffering on any platform.
This initiative comes in the wake of the tragic death of 29-year-old TikTok influencer Rajeswary Appahu, known as Esha, who reportedly took her own life after being bullied online by other users.
