A hacker is allegedly selling Malaysian government data containing sensitive information on a popular forum where cybercriminals peddle stolen data to interested parties.
According to a Tweet by cybersecurity researcher Dark Web Informer, a hacker named “result” had supposedly stolen the data and is selling it on BreachForums, one of the world’s largest hacking forums.
The database, apparently containing email addresses, passwords, usernames, and other personal information, was listed on sale for USD1,000 (~RM4,679).
According to CyberSecurity Malaysia (CSM), the government sector experiences the greatest number of data breaches.
In the Mid-Year Threat Landscape Report 2023, CSM stated that the government sector accounted for 22% of breaches.
CSM also mentioned that government ministries and agencies face significant cyber risks, such as vulnerable software, weak access controls, data exposure, and other critical issues.
