Listening to a voice message in a noisy environment can be challenging, making it difficult to understand the sender’s words. Similarly, individuals with hearing difficulties may not be able to listen to voice messages at all.
This is why in May 2023, WhatsApp introduced the voice message transcription feature, but it was only available for iOS users.
According to WABetaInfo, this feature is also arriving on Android, but only for a small group of beta testers in certain regions.
The voice transcription feature enables users to read their received voice messages rather than listening to them.
Currently, the transcription service is available in English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Hindi. The app may expand to include additional languages in the future.
After selecting a language for your transcript, WhatsApp will download an additional data package to ensure your privacy.
Transcripts are created on your device, ensuring your control and privacy, and are fully end-to-end encrypted.
Additionally, you have the option to alter your preferred language in the settings whenever you wish.
Furthermore, the transcription feature also serves as a quick reference, enabling users to find and review the content of voice notes without having to replay the voice messages again.
There’s no official word from WhatsApp about when this feature will be available to all users, so we just have to wait and see.
