If you are using a Windows 10 or 11 computer and you are holding off on updating your Windows, you should update right now because Microsoft discovered and patched a critical WiFi vulnerability recently.

According to Forbes, the vulnerability, identified as CVE-2024-30078, does not require an attacker to have physical access to the targeted computer, although they do need to be in close proximity.

An unauthenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability to gain remote code execution on the affected device.

Microsoft warns that an attacker does not need user authentication before exploiting this vulnerability, nor access to settings or files on the victim’s machine.

Furthermore, the targeted device’s user does not need to interact at all: there is no link to click, no image to load, and no file to execute.

Microsoft has classified the vulnerability as “important,” which ranks as the company’s second-highest severity level for security vulnerabilities.

So try to update immediately if you can, even if you are mostly just using WiFi at home or at the office.

How to update your Windows 10 or 11?

To update your Windows 10, select Click the Windows key  > Settings  > Windows Update.

For Windows 11, select Click the Windows key  > Settings  > Update & Security  > Windows Update  and select Check for updates.
