Spotify, the world-renowned music streaming platform, is set to introduce a new, higher-priced premium plan later this year for audio aficionados.

The new premium plan, which will cost users at least an additional USD5 (~RM23.60) per month, is designed to provide access to superior audio quality and innovative tools for creating playlists and managing song libraries, according to Bloomberg.

This plan is not intended to replace existing Spotify plans. Instead, it will be offered as an add-on for current subscribers who wants the best sound quality and new features.

The report stated that the pricing of the new tier will vary depending on each user’s base plan but will average out to about a 40% markup.

Currently in Malaysia, there are five Spotify plans:

  • Mini: RM0.75 per day.
  • Individual: RM15.90 per month.
  • Student: RM8.50 per month.
  • Family (six accounts): RM24.90 per month.
  • Duo (two accounts): RM21.50 per month.

In addition to high-quality audio, subscribers to the new tier will also gain the ability to instantly generate custom playlists for specific activities, dates, and times of the year.

These playlists will learn and adapt to each user’s behaviour, providing a personalised listening experience. Over time, the system will be able to develop playlists without any prompting from the user.
