AEON Bank (M) Bhd officially launched its digital bank on Sunday (26 May), marking it as the first Islamic digital bank in Malaysia.

Chief Executive Officer Raja Teh Maimunah Raja Abdul Aziz stated that the bank aims to offer safe, simplified, and inclusive shariah-compliant digital banking solutions to all Malaysians, according to Bernama.

These solutions include savings accounts, retirement savings plans, various borrowing options, and payment services.

She also mentioned that the beta testing among the group’s employees was successful, with over 1,800 testers participating over 12 weeks.

Raja stated that the beta test aimed to identify areas for improvement and fixing. It received positive feedback, particularly regarding the overall architecture.

The test was conducted without rushing, and an alpha test preceded it, ensuring thorough stability checks for the platform, she added.

The bank currently offers personal banking digital product services, such as Savings Account-i, Savings Pots with customisable optimisation features, and budgeting tools, with more services to come soon.

Users who activate their account can immediately access their virtual Aeon Bank x Visa Debit Card-i and request their physical Debit Card-i.

For the public launch campaign, AEON Bank customers who activate their account will receive a sign-up bonus of 3,000 Aeon Points and 3X Aeon Points for transactions using the Aeon Bank x Visa Debit Card-i, in addition to a profit rate of 3.88% per annum.

Additionally, customers in the AEON Points programme will have their membership automatically linked with the AEON Bank app, enabling them to enjoy extra benefits and rewards when making payments at Aeon Group’s outlets and merchants.
