The Putrajaya Corporation (PPj), in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport (MOT), is conducting a trial run of the Automated Rapid Transit (ART) trackless tram in Putrajaya until 31 July.
The ART tram service uses technology developed in China by CRRC, the world’s leading manufacturer of rail systems and components. If everything goes according to plan, the service will roll out by year-end, according to Bernama.
Muhammad Masrizal added that the electric vehicle is able to accommodate up to 307 passengers at a time and the ride is free throughout the trial period. Passengers need to scan the QR code provided at the passenger pick-up station.
Route 1 starts from Putrajaya Sentral MRT station and passes through government administrative destinations in Precincts 2, 3, and 4, while Route 2 will start from Putrajaya Sentral MRT Station and go to IOI City Mall.

What is ART?
ART is a LIDAR-guided (light detection and ranging) articulated bus system designed for urban passenger transport. While it is termed “autonomous”, the operational models are optically guided and include a driver.
Trackless trams can function independently of guiding sensors, thus they are categorised as buses.
