YouTube declared that users who use a third-party ad blocking app may encounter buffering problems or encounter an error message stating, “The following content is not available on this app.”
Last year, YouTube declared war on ad blockers globally. The company started disabling videos for users using ad blocking extensions.
However, YouTube now asserts that its policies prohibit “third-party apps to turn off ads because that prevents the creator from being rewarded for viewership.”
This appears to be directed towards mobile ad blockers such as AdGuard, which permits users to access YouTube within the ad blocking app, allowing uninterrupted video viewing, according to The Verge.
“We only allow third-party apps to use our API when they follow our API Services Terms of Service. When we find an app that violates these terms, we will take appropriate action to protect our platform, creators, and viewers,” YouTube said.
To circumvent this issue, YouTube once again recommends subscribing to the ad-free YouTube Premium.
