BlackBerry Limited has established a Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE) in Kuala Lumpur, aimed at providing cybersecurity training and threat intelligence to Malaysia and its regional partners in the Indo-Pacific area.
According to the press statement, the center will offer a variety of courses and certifications through its new BlackBerry Cybersecurity Curriculum, addressing the shortage of cybersecurity professionals in Malaysia, as highlighted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar emphasised the center’s potential as an international hub for addressing cyber threats, fostering collaboration between Malaysian and Canadian institutions. By 2025, Malaysia aims to have 25,000 cybersecurity workers.
The CCoE will facilitate networking, knowledge-sharing, and skills training in cyber fundamentals, leadership, and technical areas, including Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning.
It will also provide scholarships for women in cybersecurity and collaborate with institutions like the SANS Institute and Canada’s Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst for specialised training programs.
Additionally, plans are underway to integrate CCoE programs into university curricula to enhance student education in cybersecurity.
