Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the introduction of the Online Motor Vehicles De-Registration System (e-Dereg) by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to address the problem of abandoned vehicles in residential areas.

Loke highlighted that the e-Dereg system allows vehicle owners wishing to dispose of their vehicles to complete the deregistration procedure online in less than an hour, eliminating the need to physically visit JPJ counters, according to Bernama.

He emphasised that this initiative targets vehicles that are no longer roadworthy due to various reasons, such as irreparable damage or being economically unviable for repair.

To ensure proper vehicle disposal and adherence to regulations established by the Environment Department (DOE), the system mandates that vehicle disposal can only occur at DOE-licensed Authorised Automotive Treatment Facilities (AATFs).

Loke mentioned that initially, the system, developed in partnership with E-Auto Sdn Bhd, a service provider, will be implemented by Car Medic Sdn Bhd in Bandar Teknologi Kajang.
