Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil expressed interest in leveraging an integrated 5G network within hospitals to improve patient treatment and educational capabilities.
During a visit to Norwegian Radium Hospital, the telecommunication giant Telenor Group showcased a dedicated 5G indoor solution aimed at innovating patient treatment and developing health solutions, according to Bernama.
Fahmi highlighted the potential for telecommunication service providers to engage in public-private partnerships with hospitals to offer new services or solutions.
The innovative solutions showcased at Norwegian Radium Hospital focus on bringing healthcare services to patients rather than requiring patients to go to the hospital. This involves the implementation of two networks: a conventional IP-based network and a 4G/5G base network.
The dual-network approach is designed to enhance accessibility, efficiency, and patient care by leveraging the capabilities of advanced communication technologies.
This strategy aims to provide medical services remotely, ensuring a broader reach and more convenient healthcare options for individuals.
The 5G network enables opportunities like Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, faster access to test results for practitioners, and future healthcare advancements such as remote assisted surgery in teaching hospitals.
Fahmi plans to discuss these possibilities with the Ministry of Higher Education and Ministry of Health.
