WhatsApp is currently testing out a new privacy feature that prevents users from screenshotting profile pictures.

WABetaInfo says that the feature is currently in beta for Android users via the Google Play Beta Program and will be rolled out to the masses in the coming weeks.

With this feature turned on, if a user decides to take a screenshot of a profile picture, a notification will pop up that says that the app doesn’t allow for screenshots, besides preventing the phone from saving the photo.

However, they didn’t say whether a user will be notified if their pictures are being screenshotted by other users.

As a way to improve security, the messaging platform previously removed the option to save profile pictures but users are still allowed to screenshot profile photos. Now WhatsApp is taking that one step further by disallowing users from taking screenshots altogether.

The messaging platform has dabbled with the idea of preventing screenshots before with its “view once” feature that prevents users from screen capturing photos, videos, or voice messages.
