The 5G network experienced a decline in dropped calls after activating the Call Reestablishment (CRE) function for LTE700 coverage from 21 to 29 December last year.

Bernama reports that according to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil, some service providers reported a reduction of up to 70%, although there are lingering issues that telecommunication companies (telcos) must address to enhance service quality.

Fahmi stated, “We have observed technical challenges faced by some telcos, and we have urged them to submit a detailed report to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further examination.

Our aim is to resolve the problem of dropped calls, and I am confident that the involved telcos will diligently address these issues.” He made these remarks following a cellular service quality test at the Felda Bukit Goh Digital Economy Centre (PEDi).

The comprehensive test covered eight locations spanning a distance of 31km from Sungai Karang to Felda Bukit Goh, employing repeated and continuous call methods. CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Unifi Mobile, and Yes participated as mobile network service providers, with only one dropped call recorded throughout the test.

Pahang became the third location for the test, following the federal capital, where the test journeyed from the Parliament Building in Kuala Lumpur to the Communications Ministry in Putrajaya on 9 January. The second session took place on a river cruise along Sungai Melaka in Melaka on 26 January.

In a separate development, Fahmi revealed that 5G coverage in Pahang has reached 65%, and 57 schools in the state are actively engaged in Phase 1 of the Point of Presence (PoP) project. The initiative aims to enhance internet quality through optic fibres, contributing to the broader improvement of connectivity in the region.
