Yoodo today announced a new partnership with PUBG Mobile powerhouse O-TWO Sports which they say will usher in a new era of dominance in the local and international esports scene.

As part of the new sponsorship deal, the team, consisting of reputed sports figures including Fuad “Fredo” Razali, Partibhan “OnTheGo” Petchayappen and Izruddin “Jumper” Hashim will be known as Yoodo O-TWO.

Their in-game name will also change to reflect the new partnership.

Head of Yoodo Chow Tuck Mun said that the formation of Yoodo O-TWO is a pivotal milestone for both the brand and the local esports industry as it would augment the standards of competitive gaming in Malaysia, especial PUBG mobile.

The rise of Yoodo O-TWO attests to the vital role of digital telcos in mobile gaming. As a pioneer in this space, Yoodo is uniquely positioned to springboard our local esports athletes onto the international esports stage. Our strength in providing innovative and seamless digital connectivity offers players the resources to showcase their skills and perform their best in the global arena.

The company says that Yoodo O-TWO is a third-generation esports team formed under the Yoodo brand.

Yoodo to help O-TWo grow

Chow says that as part of the deal, Yoodo will provide O-TWO with sponsorships and help build the team.

He also added that the telco will also provide the mobile line for the players to practice and help with media exposure.

As per our normal involvement in esports, one, of course will be monetary, so we are sponsoring the team, at the same time we have also been involved in the industry for so long, so in a sense we are building the team with them, of course the members here are very famous in the industry, but at the same time, there’s also this new team. So we’re going to help them build a team too, because teams that work with us, we tend to grow together, so we want to help them in that.

The other part is the connectivity, in terms of the mobile line, of course we are providing mobile lines to them so they have their connectivity covered, and if they’re playing outside, they can use it to play and practice. Another aspect of growing together, we do things to expose the team members to more publicity, we help them grow, we also get involved in training them on how to deal with the media and so on.

Yoodo to Focus on Raising brand awareness and 5G for 2024

For 2024, Chow told TechTRP that they will continue to build brand awareness to get more users on board.

He added that although the brand has already made their mark in the market, there is still room for improvement.

We will continue building awareness for Yoodo, I think Yoodo has grown quite well over the years, but at the same time, I think there’s much more to be done in terms of making the whole of Malaysia know about Yoodo. So we want to continue doing that, meaning bringing our name to the market, telling people why you should be on Yoodo, what the value proposition is and so on.

Yoodo will also be looking at launching more products for this year, with the emphasis on customisable products and 5G, according to Chow.

The second part is that we will continue introducing new products, I think Yoodo has been pretty innovative in terms of products, we have always been launching new types of products, last year alone we have things like customisable validity which means that you will be able to buy a plan for 90 days, 3 months or 6 months, we will continue doing that and the new products will be more about 5G this time.
