The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) faces challenges in registering residents of Sarawak in the Central Database Hub (PADU) system, primarily due to issues related to rural internet access and population distribution in the largest state in Malaysia.
To address this, DOSM director Dayang Rozana Abang Hassan outlined plans to collaborate with community leaders as registration agents and coordinate efforts with penghulu, village heads, and chiefs, according to Bernama.
They are encouraging residents to register at Digital Economy Centres (PEDi) or the PADU portal. DOSM officers are stationed at 40 counters in Sarawak to educate the public about the system’s importance, particularly focusing on PEDi locations.
The department is also working with district offices, local authorities, and implementing a ‘flying squad’ with a Starlink internet system to facilitate registration in targeted areas, especially in the interior, where internet connectivity is unavailable.
Efforts are also underway to inform individuals, especially those aged 18 and above, about the benefits of registering with PADU to update their household information and individual profiles in the system.
