Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that the registration process for the National Digital Identity, or MyDigital ID, which involves 1.6 million civil servants, is progressing smoothly.
Fahmi emphasised the current focus on ensuring the successful registration of government personnel before the system opens to the public in March next year, according to Bernama.
“I hope that we will be able to increase registration for the MyDigital ID system, which is a single sign-on (SSO) system or a system where registration is done only once,” he stated.
MyDigital ID serves as a digital identification and verification method for individuals, catering to both public and private sectors for authenticating users during online transactions.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim made history as the first individual to register and own a digital identity.
On 21 November, Anwar, who also holds the position of Finance Minister, allocated RM80 million to MIMOS Berhad to expedite the implementation of MyDigital ID, reinforcing digital transformation and supporting digital initiatives, particularly in government affairs.
Fahmi underscored the crucial role of civil servants in explaining information about MyDigital ID as part of the ongoing government service digitisation efforts.
“I see a need for civil servants, especially, to actively participate in the registration effort (for MyDigital ID). Essentially, it is the digitisation process of government services. So, it is important for us to show that the government sector is ready for the digitisation process and is adapting to the use of new technology to provide better and more convenient services to the people,” he stressed.
Besides that, Fahmi has requested the Information Department (JaPen) to assist MIMOS in disseminating information about the significance of registering for the system, including activating its ‘Info on Wheels’ at the state level.
Regarding the registration process, he reported that over 500 ministry staff registered for MyDigital ID, with a highly positive reception.
