Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced that his ministry is set to implement on-demand transit van services, also known as demand responsive transit (DRT), in the Klang Valley.

The initiative aims to improve the connectivity of public transportation, focusing on addressing accessibility issues in first- and last-mile areas currently underserved by public buses, according to Bernama.

Loke revealed that part of the RM50 million allocated under Budget 2024 to enhance public transportation will be utilised for van purchases.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has been assigned the responsibility of overseeing the operations.

The ministry wants Prasarana to collaborate with companies providing on-demand van services, emphasising a strategic placement approach similar to e-hailing services rather than following fixed routes.
