Today, OnePlus finally revealed the phone’s design to the world and it looks similar to OnePlus 11.
The OnePlus 12 will be available in three colours: White, Green, and Black.
According to OnePlus’ account on Weibo, the company announced that they will be launching the phone on 5 December at 2.30pm (China time), instead of 4 December that we reported previously. This means that 4 December will probably only be about the OnePlus 10th anniversary.
The images indicate that the upcoming flagship from OnePlus will feature a periscope lens for its telephoto camera, marking a first for the smartphone brand.
The arrangement of four circles in a square is consistent with the OnePlus 11, but the LED flash has been relocated from the circular island.
The fourth small circle is anticipated to be designated for RGB sensors or a 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor.
Besides that, according to OnePlus press release, the most prominent design change on the OnePlus 12 is the switching of the Alert Slider to the left-hand side of the phone, which allows the company to introduce a new integrated antenna and the Alert Slider solution on the new device to deliver an enhanced antenna performance for gaming.
The company claims internal testing for the OnePlus 12 reveals that optimal gaming antenna placement is between the user’s forefingers in landscape orientation. However, the Alert Slider on the OnePlus 11 currently occupies this space.
To address this, the Alert Slider will be relocated to the opposite side of the phone, allowing for improved gaming antennas. Despite the challenge of maintaining optimal antenna signal strength on the same side, OnePlus employs Ultra-compact Full-band Antenna and Alert Slider Antenna Integration technologies to minimise space.
This results in a balance between enhanced antenna performance and the presence of the Alert Slider. Lab test data from OnePlus indicates a 3dB improvement in gaming antenna signal and a 15% reduction in game latency on the OnePlus 12.
OnePlus is expected to launch the phone globally in January 2024.
