After being fired by OpenAI last week, the ex-Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OpenAI was hired by Microsoft to be the CEO of its new AI team, and one day later, Sam Altman returned to take the mantle of OpenAI chief once more.

OpenAI has announced a preliminary agreement for the return of Altman. The company is also undergoing board reforms, removing several members who faced significant scrutiny for their recent decision.

The new board will include former Salesforce CEO Bret Taylor, ex-U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers, and Quora founder Adam D’Angelo. Taylor is set to assume the role of board chair.

Altman stated that he’s happy to be back in the company and will continue to work with Microsoft.

Emmett Shear, the former CEO of Twitch who was appointed as interim leader of OpenAI on Sunday, expressed satisfaction with the OpenAI’s decision.

The reappointment of Altman should bring an end to the roller-coaster rides that plunged the world’s most renowned AI startup into chaos.
