BlackBerry Ltd has entered a significant long-term software and services agreement with the Malaysian government to enhance the nation’s cybersecurity capabilities.

The deal enables Malaysia to utilise BlackBerry’s comprehensive suite of cybersecurity solutions, supporting the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and providing advanced technology and training to the workforce, according to Bernama.

The collaboration includes secure, real-time access to BlackBerry software hosted in a sovereign cloud. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stresses the importance of international partnerships and cutting-edge technology to ensure growth, prosperity, and data security.

Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, underscores cybersecurity’s role in the Indo-Pacific strategy, supporting BlackBerry’s establishment of a Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence in Kuala Lumpur in 2024.

The centre aims to address Malaysia’s shortage of 12,000 cyber professionals, offering specialised training, threat intelligence, and incident response capabilities. The initiative aligns with Canada’s Indo-Pacific Strategy to enhance regional cybersecurity resilience.

John Giamatteo, BlackBerry’s cybersecurity president, will oversee the deployment of solutions in Malaysia and the establishment of the Cybersecurity Centre of Excellence, reinforcing the nation’s position as a regional hub for threat intelligence.
