Samsung introduced its proprietary Generative AI (artificial intelligence) model, Samsung Gauss, at the Samsung AI Forum 2023 in Seoul, South Korea.

This AI technology, developed by Samsung Research, is currently used internally by the company but will soon be accessible to the public through upcoming products, according to SamMobile.

Samsung Gauss encompasses three components: Samsung Gauss Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image. These Generative AI features could be integrated into the upcoming Galaxy S24 series, set for release in January 2024.

  1. Samsung Gauss Language: This model comprehends human language and generates responses, enhancing productivity by aiding in tasks like email composition, document editing, translation, and content creation. It can also offer intelligent device control and can operate on both cloud servers and endpoint devices.
  2. Samsung Gauss Code: Focused on code languages, this model includes an internal code assistant called ‘code.i’ for swift and user-friendly software development. It supports code description and test case generation.
  3. Samsung Gauss Image: This component simplifies image creation and editing, allowing for style transformation, enhancing image resolution, adding elements to existing images, and even generating images from textual descriptions, similar to Dall-E.

Samsung places a strong emphasis on privacy and security by ensuring that these Generative AI models can operate in an on-device mode, thereby protecting personal information.

The company has also established an AI Red Team to uphold AI ethics, conducting internal evaluations to address privacy and security concerns across all stages of AI development, from data collection to result formation.

Samsung named its AI “Gauss” after the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, who laid the foundation for AI and ML (Machine Learning) technologies by formulating the Normal Distribution Theory (Gaussian), which serves as their fundamental basis.
