Minister Fahmi Fadzil announced that the Communications and Digital Ministry will initiate the second phase of Starlink satellite device installations at nine locations in Sabah in January next year.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will oversee the installations, with one of them taking place in Inanam, according to Bernama.
Fahmi mentioned that they are currently in the process of installing two Starlink units in Pensiangan and Ranau as part of Phase One.
Starlink obtained a government license as an internet service provider in July to bolster the country’s internet capacity.
He further noted that the communication sector’s inflation rate remains at -3.7% due to service providers reducing prices, indicating positive developments in the industry.
Regarding a Starlink satellite device installation in Kampung Langsat, Ranau, Fahmi explained that it has provided high-speed internet connectivity of over 200 Mbps to 500 residents, according to another news report by Bernama.

This installation was carried out through the Proof of Concept (PoC) project as a temporary solution to address connectivity issues in the area, while awaiting the completion of a telecommunication tower construction under the National Digital Network Plan.
The Starlink device in Kampung Langsat was installed on 7 September, making it the second installation in Sabah following the first one in Keningau on 5 September. Unlike other installations on rooftops, this device is securely mounted onto the building to ensure stability.

Fahmi stated that the ministry is actively working on constructing a telecommunication tower in Kampung Langsat to meet the residents’ needs, and he plans to discuss this matter with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Kampung Langsat head, Paimin Abdullah, expressed the significant benefits of the high-speed internet provided through the Starlink device, particularly for students and the younger generation in completing their homework.
Access to the internet has become more accessible, making communication with family members living outside the village easier and Paimin expressed hope for the expansion of Starlink device coverage.
