Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil stated that Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) and Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB) are expected to sign share subscription agreements (SSAs) this year.
He mentioned that his ministry recently met with the 5G Task Force to expedite the SSAs, initially aiming for October but experiencing a slight delay due to the need for a detailed review, including technical and financial assessments. The specific signing date will be announced after discussions with the MNOs, as reported by Bernama.
He assured that the SSAs would be finalised within this year. Currently, DNB holds Malaysia’s 5G spectrum and aims to achieve 80% coverage by the end of 2023.
Five MNOs, including CelcomDigi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia, U Mobile, and YTL Communications, have agreed to invest in DNB to support the development of Malaysia’s 5G network.
DNB was established in early March 2021 to accelerate the deployment of 5G infrastructure and network in Malaysia.
