At IFA 2023, Lenovo showcased its first handheld gaming PC, seeking to challenge Steam Deck and the Asus ROG Ally.

The Lenovo Legion Go features an 8.8-inch QHD+ 16:10 touchscreen boasting a 144Hz refresh rate, with a peak brightness of 500 nits. The display supports resolutions from 1,600p to 800p as well.

It is powered by up to an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor (similar to Asus ROG Ally), coupled with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM. It also offers storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of PCIe 4 M.2 NVMe storage and microSD card support with up to 2TB.

Its battery is a two-cell 49.2WHr unit and comes with a 65W power adapter that supports Super Rapid Charge, allowing the battery to recharge up to 70% in just half an hour.

When gaming while plugged in, the Legion Go includes a power bypass mode that protects the battery from extra degradation while also eliminating heat normally produced while charging.

The Legion Go has detachable controllers and they use Hall effect joysticks, which mean no joystick drift and minimal dead zones. The right controller can be transformed into a mouse with the included accessory.

The right detached controller is placed into an included controller base that attaches via magnet, and the optical eye at the bottom of the controller allows for more precise aiming and control necessary during competitive FPS games, akin to using a mouse.

The Legion Go features dual USB Type-C ports for convenient connectivity, allowing users to dock and charge the device while simultaneously connecting accessories, thanks to plug and-play features supporting DisplayPort 1.4 and Power Delivery 3.0 support. Connectivity extends to Wi-Fi 6E as well as Bluetooth 5.2 support.

Pricing and Availability

The Legion Go powered by AMD Ryzen Z1 costs RM3,099, while the Z1 Extreme version is priced at RM3,399. For the rest of the specs, they are the same for both models.

In comparison, the Asus ROG Ally with Z1 Extreme retails for RM3,299, while the less powerful version, which you can only get through CelcomDigi, is priced at RM2,799.

According to Lenovo’s site, shipping takes within 8 to 10 weeks at the time of writing. The accessories for the Legion Go, the Legion Glasses and Legion E510 7.1 RGB Gaming In-Ear Headphones, are not available for purchase yet.
