Cultivating a strong tech talent pool fosters a culture of creativity and problem-solving, positioning countries as leaders in the technology sector and attracting investments. If Malaysia wants to succeed in a digital economy, we need those talents.
FMT reports that Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil emphasised the need for more talent and expertise in data and technology as Malaysia approaches a significant digital era and aims to become an Asian digital tiger. Speaking to approximately 100 Malaysian students in the United Kingdom, Fahmi highlighted the digital economy’s growing importance, projecting it to contribute at least 25% to the nation’s economy.
He highlighted recent substantial investments in Malaysia’s digital infrastructure, including a RM3 billion investment from an Australian company for a data centre in Petaling Jaya and a RM3 billion commitment from a United States company. Fahmi emphasised that all industries will have a digital component in the future, and traditional jobs are evolving or disappearing.
Malaysia has set a target of attracting RM130 billion in digital investments by 2025, which would contribute 25.5% to the country’s GDP. Fahmi encouraged the students to consider returning to Malaysia after completing their studies abroad and utilise their talents and experiences to contribute to the nation’s development.
Fahmi stated that in this digital era, the opportunities are immense and he urges the students to study hard, excel in their field, and eventually bring back their talent and experience to help Malaysia.
