Malay Mail reports that the Melaka government is targeting a 100% coverage rate of 5G in populated areas within the state by 2024. Fairul Nizam Roslan, Chairman of the State Science Technology Innovation and Digital Communications Committee, stated that the goal is based on the current coverage rate, which has already reached 55.1% and aims to reach 80% by the end of this year.

Once the 80% target is achieved by October, efforts will be made to complete the remaining 20%, including site identification. Under Phase 2 of the Melaka 5G Implementation Plan, an additional 91 5G sites will be established, covering areas in the Melaka Tengah, Alor Gajah, and Jasin districts.

Fairul added that as of 30 April, 114 sites have been completed, and 101 of those sites, including Duyong, are already operational, providing 5G services. The guidelines for the replacement and installation of new smart lamp poles (SLP) in Melaka have also been approved during a state government meeting in May, expediting the construction of new 5G infrastructure throughout the state.
