In September 2022, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) urged banking institutions to switch from the one-time password (OTP) system to more secure forms of authentication for online transactions in light of the surge in cybercrime in Malaysia. Maybank is the latest bank to move away from OTP and switching to a more secure method.
A couple of days ago, Maybank has revealed its plan to transfer Secure2u authorisation to the MAE app starting from 1 July 2023. This means that Secure2u on the MAE app will become the exclusive method for approving all transactions conducted through Maybank2u web, M2U MY app, or the MAE app.
The bank stated that the MAE app’s Secure2u authorization includes even more additional security features to protect your money and enhance your online banking experience. This enhanced banking security aligns with BNM’s direction to combat financial scams.
Take note that there will be a 12-hour activation period when you enable Secure2u on the MAE app for the first time; or enable Secure2u on the MAE app on a different device. During this period, transactions that necessitate Secure2u authorisation will be temporarily unavailable.
Here’s how to activate Secure2u on your MAE app
Step 1: Download the MAE app on Apple App Store, Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery
Step 2: Launch app and tap ‘Secure2u’ under Quick Actions
Step 3: Tap ‘Activate Now’
Step 4: Confirm your mobile number and enter the One Time Password (OTP) received via SMS
Step 5: Enter your M2U ID number
Step 6: Confirm your device name and you are good to go.
