Previously, you could lock your WhatsApp using a fingerprint or PIN, but the app offered no option to lock individual chats or groups using those options. To make WhatsApp more secure than ever, the company finally introduced a way for you to do so.

According to WhatsApp, yesterday, they introduced a new feature called Chat Lock, designed to provide an additional layer of security for your private conversations. By utilising this feature, you can safeguard your chats in a more secure manner.

When you lock a chat, it is moved to a separate folder, which can only be accessed using your device password or biometric authentication, such as a fingerprint. Furthermore, the contents of locked chats are automatically concealed in notifications, ensuring privacy.

WhatsApp believes that this feature will be particularly beneficial for individuals who occasionally share their phones with family members or find themselves in situations where someone else is holding their phone when a sensitive chat message arrives.

To lock a chat, simply tap on the name of the one-to-one or group conversation and select the lock option. To view these locked chats, you can slowly pull down on your inbox and enter your phone password or use biometric authentication.

In the coming months, WhatsApp plans to introduce additional options for Chat Lock, including the ability to lock chats on companion devices and create custom passwords for individual chats, allowing for unique passwords distinct from the one used for your phone.

This new feature is currently being rolled out, so users can start locking their chats from prying eyes.
