Elon Musk aimed to generate revenue for Twitter when he assumed control of the social media platform in October 2022. As a result, Twitter rolled out a subscription service known as Twitter Blue, which provides users with additional tweet characters, reduced advertising, a blue verification checkmark, and other perks.

Twitter’s blue verification checkmark used to be free for people, businesses or organisations that Twitter deemed to be Authentic, Noble, and Active. With the new head honcho, everyone can get one, as long they are willing to pay.

Starting 20 April 2023, those who received their checkmarks before Musk took over Twitter will see their blue verified badge removed, unless they are subscribed to Twitter Blue.

For individuals, they can start subscribing to Twitter Blue for RM35 per month or RM369 annually. The subscription price is higher when subscribed through the iPhone or Android. If you subscribe via either of them, it costs RM50 per month, or RM519.90 per year.

For organisations or businesses, it costs RM4,500 per month and if the businesses or organisations want to add affiliated accounts, it costs an additional RM230 per month.

Twitter Blue offers the ability to edit Tweets, upload 1080p videos with longer durations, access to Bookmark Folders, and so on. The company also says that in the future, Twitter Blue subscribers will see only a portion of the ads, in addition to allowing their Tweet replies to be shown at the top.
