Last month, we reported that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has announced that Malaysia is set to establish approximately 4,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points this year. As of now, the country currently has 900 EV charging points.
MITI has a plan to achieve 10,000 charging stations by 2025, with 1,000 direct current type units and 9,000 alternating current or slow charging units.
Free Malaysia Today reports that by the end of 2023, Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) plans to set up 59 EV charging stations across 18 properties within the PNB group portfolio. These charging stations will be installed at various locations, including offices, hotels, resorts, golf clubs, and shopping centres.
This move is in line with PNB’s Sustainability Framework, which aims to drive decarbonisation efforts in its portfolio and support the government’s Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2021-2030.
PNB is collaborating with Gentari Sdn Bhd to implement this initiative, and Gentari’s Green Mobility chief operating officer, Haikal Zubir, said the project would expand EV charging infrastructure to the east coast states and increase interstate driving confidence.
