Fake emails offering cash prizes are a common form of online fraud that is designed to trick people into revealing personal information or sending money. These emails often claim that the recipient has won a large sum of money or a prize, but in order to claim it, they must provide sensitive information like their bank account details or pay a processing fee.
These emails can look convincing, but it’s important to be cautious and check the authenticity of the sender and the legitimacy of the offer before taking any action. It’s best to delete these emails and not engage with them, in order to avoid falling victim to this type of scam.
Malay Mail reports that the chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) did not send any emails to assist in the transfer of cash prizes from a telecommunications company, according to a statement released by the MCMC.
The email in question claimed to offer the recipient RM270,000 in cash prizes from Telekom Malaysia, but the MCMC urged the public to be cautious and not to provide personal information to unknown individuals.
Additionally, the commission advised anyone who had made banking transactions to an account for processing fees related to prize claims to contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 immediately.
