Currently, in the space of handheld gaming PC, Valve’s Steam Deck is the king, while Ayaneo, ONEXPLAYER, GPD Win and a few other brands are closely following behind. A new rival, Asus, is attempting to unseat the king with its own portable gaming PC.
When Asus posted a YouTube video about their new handheld gaming PC, ROG Ally, on 1 April, everyone thought it was an April’s Fool joke.
Turns out, it wasn’t. A couple of days later, Asus confirmed that it’s real and people can sign-up for more details.
The Verge reports that the ROG Ally will be running Windows 11, powered by AMD Ryzen APU with Zen 4 architecture and RDNA 3 graphics. Asus claims it’s the fastest one from AMD yet.
Asus also said the ROG Ally will be lighter, smaller, and slimmer than Steam Deck. It has a 7-inch 16:9 display with Full HD resolution, 500 nits of brightness, and a 120HZ refresh rate.
The ROG Ally can also be connected to Asus ROG XG Mobile eGPU, offering much more powerful GPU for a desktop gaming experience.
At the time this article was written, Asus had not yet disclosed the price or the possibility of a Malaysian release. But Dave2D mentioned that Asus is planning to release this globally.
