The first Lenovo Legion gaming smartphone was announced in July 2020 and is called the Lenovo Legion Phone Duel which featured a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset. The last Legion phone to come out on the market is Legion Y70, which was released in August 2022, packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset.

Since then, we have no heard of any news or rumours regarding the next Lenovo Legion gaming smartphone. Today, we finally know why there isn’t any.

According to Android Authority, an individual suspected of working for Lenovo made a statement on social media regarding the Legion phone business last week. The statement suggested that Lenovo had decided to cease operations entirely in the gaming phone sector.

Android Authority then contacted Lenovo to investigate this assertion further. Afterward, a representative from Lenovo verified to Android Authority that the company had indeed terminated its Legion phone business.

The Lenovo spokesperson said:

Lenovo is discontinuing its Android-based Legion mobile gaming phones as part of a wider business transformation and gaming portfolio consolidation.

As a leader in gaming devices and solutions, Lenovo is committed to advancing the gaming category across form factors, as well as focusing on where it can bring the most value to the global gaming community.

It’s uncertain whether Lenovo is shutting down its mobile gaming division forever or only temporarily. But there are no shortages of Android gaming phones on the market, with the latest one being ASUS ROG Phone 7, which is scheduled to be announced on 13 April 2023.

Plus there’s also the recently launched RedMagic 8 Pro. The phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, and up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.
