Grocery price comparison is important because it allows consumers to make informed purchasing decisions and save money. With so many different grocery stores and brands available, comparing prices helps consumers identify the best deals and avoid overpaying for items.

By comparing prices across different stores and online retailers, consumers can also find the best quality products for their budget. Additionally, price comparison can help consumers stay within their budget, which is particularly important for those with limited financial resources. In this uncertain times, people are looking to save as much money as they can, which is why the Ministry of Economy (MoE) has decided to teamed up with a price checking app.

Malay Mail reports that the MoE Minister Rafizi Ramli has announced the collaboration with a mobile app called “KitaJaga” to promote fairness in pricing and provide data transparency for consumers. The app, which was developed by a local company, Terato Tech, enables consumers to check prices of groceries based on their location.

The initiative aims to empower consumers with open-source data from OpenDOSM and the app will be expanded to other categories in the future.

The OpenDOSM is designed to compile, display, and study the large amount of data available from the Department of Statistics Malaysia. Users can access all the data sets available on OpenDOSM free of charge, and they have the option to download the data in its raw form, as tables or charts. In addition, users can utilize the Python programming language to extract data from the platform.

Rafizi said the development of KitaJaga was voluntary, and the ministry plans to work with other e-commerce stakeholders to expand the existing price-checking potential.

He added that the app is not intended to promote the purchase of cheap goods but rather serve as a benchmark for consumers to make informed decisions based on complete data.

You can download the KitaJaga app on App Store and Google Play Store.
