Water is a precious and limited resource essential for all living beings. With the world population growing, urbanization increasing and climate change impacting water availability, it has become crucial to conserve water for a sustainable future.
Excessive use of water can lead to groundwater depletion, which can have serious consequences for agriculture, industries and ecosystems. Saving water can also help in reducing energy consumption, as water pumping, treatment and distribution requires significant energy.
To help with that, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change through the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) launched another Jimat Air campaign.
Bernama reports that SPAN has launched Jimat Air (Save Water) 4.0 campaign to encourage responsible water usage by promoting the usage of products that bear the water-efficient label, alongside other measures.
According to Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the initiative that was started in 2021 and carried out until last year under the Jimat Air campaigns 1.0 to 3.0 has continued with the introduction of the Jimat Air 4.0.
This initiative is part of the Water-Efficient Product Labelling Scheme (WEPLS) outlined in the 12th Malaysia Plan. The campaign is set to run from this month until 31 December and will provide rebates for water-efficient products purchased through Shopee, with a total allocation of RM100,000.
Each users will get a rebate of up to RM400 in which they can use to purchase water-efficient home appliances.

The Minister emphasized that the use of water-efficient products can lead to significant savings of up to 50% on water bills, depending on usage rates. He expressed hope that suppliers would market more of such products to increase consumer choice and awareness of water-efficient options.
