Sony released the WF-1000XM4 back in June 2021, so it’s about time the Japanese tech conglomerate release a follow-up to their flagship wireless earbuds.

The Walkmanblog got their hands on leak images of the Sony’s WF-1000XM5 and the recently released images reveal that the new version of the earbuds is more compact compared to the previous ones.

The charging mechanism has been changed from three to two pins, and the new case has a higher rating of 5V 230mAh compared to the previous model’s 5V 140mAh, which should result in faster charging.

The material of the case appears to be matte plastic, similar to that of the M4’s case. It’s difficult to determine the exact size of the case from the images provided, but it seems that the new case may be smaller than the M4’s case. The LED indicator has been moved to the front of the case, and Qi wireless charging is still available.
The Walkmanblog said the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) label often features a temporary image that is used to conceal the real design, and as such, it is seldom a reliable representation of the actual design. So, this leak might not be indicative of the final product.
With this leak, we can safely assume that Sony is planning to launch this wireless earbuds soon.
