Last year November, Touch ‘n Go eWallet (TnG) said they were going to voluntarily implement five security measures that were proposed by Bank Negara Malaysia for financial institutions. The company said they will get it done by March this year and they finally did it.

The Star reports that TnG has announced that its dedicated hotline, located at the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC), will answer calls within 30 seconds. Users can contact the hotline at 03-5022 3888 and select option “4” for fraud to get in touch with the fraud operations team. The hotline will operate from 8am to 8pm daily, the same hours as the NSRC 997 hotline.

In addition to the hotline, TnG also introduced four other security measures, including face verification for activities such as logging in, changing the eWallet PIN, making payments, and reloading the app.

The company plans to tighten its fraud detection rules and send email alerts to users if transactions exceed the set limit.

They are also introducing TapSecure, which allows one-tap approval, will be mandatory and limited to one device per account holder.

Customers who log in from a new device with less secure authentication will experience a verification and “cooling-off period” where they will be restricted to a certain amount of top-ups or payments for up to 48 hours. TnG assured customers that this cooling-off period will not affect low-risk transactions like toll payments or parking.

Other than that, the company said they are in the process of developing a ‘kill switch’ feature, which was mandated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the Budget 2023 speech and is required to be implemented by all banks.
