Back in December 2022, Fahmi Fadzil, the Communications and Digital Minister (KKD) unveils the “Pakej Perpaduan” or Unity Package, which is a prepaid mobile data plan that offers subscribers 30GB for RM30 over the course of six months. This data plan will be offered to young people, B40 communities, people with disabilities, senior residents, and veterans of the police and military.
Now the government is introducing a cheaper fixed-line internet for those who prefer using the internet at home.
Yesterday, Fahmi tweeted that the government is introducing “Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap” (Fixed Internet Broadband) for the B40, veterans, people with disabilities and senior citizens.
This internet package offers 30Mbps that has unlimited data quota for RM69 per month, but it comes with a two-year contract. Eligible individuals can start applying for the plan starting next month.
According to Fahmi, this Pakej Perpaduan plan is 22% less expensive than the comparable internet plan that also offers 30Mbps and costs roughly RM89. Customers who sign up for this plan will save RM480 over the course of the contract.
The telecommunication companies that will be offering this cheaper plan are, Telekom Malaysia (TM), CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, YTL, TIME Berhad and Astro.
Unfortunately, there’s still nothing for the M40 group despite Fahmi saying that there will be good news last December. If the government is not subsiding this, they should allow the M40 to apply for this cheaper internet plan as well.
