Nothing is a young company founded by the former head of OnePlus, Carl Pei and they released the Nothing Phone (1) in July 2022 and it was the company first smartphone. It features a 6.55-inch display, Snapdragon 778G+ 5G chipset, 4500 mAh battery, and support up to 256GB storage, and up to 12GB of RAM.
It runs on the Nothing OS and has a 50 MP dual camera. The phone also has a unique design with lights on the back panel that illuminate in combinations called glyphs. Ever since then, they have released two wireless earbuds, and it seems the Phone (2) is going to be their fourth product.
According to an interview with Inverse, Carl Pei said that they are planning to release the Nothing Phone (2) in late 2023.
Pei confirmed that the phone will be known as Nothing Phone (2) and it will be coming “later this year”. He added that they are not going to launch Phone (2) anytime soon because they want to make sure that the phone is getting a proper support instead of focusing launching a new phone as soon as possible.
We’re developing a smartphone that’s more premium than the Nothing Phone (1) and software will be a big focus area for us.
Carl Pei
Pei is hesitant to refer the new model as a “flagship” because the company prioritises unique hardware design and a polished software experience over obtaining the best technology at any costs.
He also stated that the United States markets is their no.1 priority for Phone (2) and the reason why Phone (1) wasn’t release widely because it wasn’t built for bands used by US telcos.
Pei claims that because the mobile team initially only had 5 engineers, work on Nothing OS had to be outsourced. However, the team has since grown, and there are currently 100 individuals working on the software. Nothing’s Android 13 beta is entirely in-house.
He didn’t provide additional details about Phone (2). Guess we just have to wait and see. Rumours and leaks are bound to happen sooner or later.
