If you’ve been browsing on social media recently, you might’ve noticed some of your friends have been showing off their Bondee avatars and you must be wondering, what are these things and why are your friends being slowly converted into 3D avatars?

It turns out that Bondee is a new online social software made by Metadream, a company in Singapore. The app was officially launched on 17 January, based on reports by NME.

Meanwhile, Business Wire says that the company was founded by investors from the United States and Australia.

In addition to Japan and South Korea as the product, R&D, and operational bases, there are three independent data centers in Singapore, Japan, and the United States.

Just like in other apps or games, Bondee allows users to choose from a wide selection of avatars, hairstyles, clothing, shoes, and accessories to dress up their 3D avatars.

Essentially, it’s something like The Sims or Animal Crossing where you can live a virtual life with your friends.

How to sign up

You can download the app for free on your Android or iOS phone. Once it’s on your device, you’ll be prompted with an intro video and the registration screen. Do note that you’ll need to be 13 years old and above to use the app.

After you’ve put in your details, comes the character creation bit where you’ll be able to customise your avatar. Once you’re done with that, you can now invite friends to become your neighbours and decorate your room.

Inside the app, you’ll be able to chat with friends, visit their rooms and leave notes.

If you’re feeling adventurous, there’s a floating function that allows users to “sail” (complete with a virtual boat) and venture into the digital world. The feature is for people who want to meet and befriend random users.

You can leave messages in drifting bottles, make friends, and even win gifts.

NFT on the horizon?

Apparently, there are NFTs in here as well, according to their legal policy.

You can create a blockchain-based wallet on the public blockchain within the Platform, purchase B-Beans by using fiat currency; and then use such B-Beans to purchase NFT products publicly available on the Platform for yourself or your friend. Your NFT products will be stored in your blockchain-based wallet by using the blockchain technology. We will collect data generated during the aforementioned purchases, including wallet balance, B-Beans order information, and NFT order information. Please note that your wallet mnemonics phrase, private key, wallet password and other private data will only be stored on your local device, and we are not able to access such data.

Currently, as far as we can see, they haven’t implemented the function yet, but considering that it’s already on their legal policy, it seems likely that the feature will be added in soon.
