Ride-sharing has become increasingly popular in recent years because it offers a convenient and cost-effective alternative to traditional taxi services. With the use of a smartphone app, customers can quickly and easily request a ride, track the location of their driver, and make payments. This eliminates waiting and the need to hail a taxi on the street.

Additionally, ride-sharing companies often offer lower prices than traditional taxi services and also provide more options for riders like carpooling and sharing, which can be an eco-friendly alternative. Furthermore, the option of cashless payments, rating system and ability to track the driver make it more comfortable for the riders. This is why Grab and many others similar ride-sharing are so popular in Malaysia, especially within Klang Valley.

If you regularly rely on Grab for work and personal purposes, this could be a bad or a good news for you.

Yesterday, Grab changed their fare structure, where the fare for each minute becomes pricier. This is beneficial to Grab drivers – where they will receive better payment during peak hours and also during traffic jams. On the other hand, for users, they will see a slight change in fares.

According to the new fare structure, the fare per minute was changed from 20 sen to 43 sen, while the fare per km was reduced from 70 sen to 25 sen.

According to Grab, the overall fare will remain largely unchanged, but will increase in price during periods of heavy traffic. The fares will be slightly less expensive if there is minimal traffic. The images below are examples of the new fare structure.

Grab said KLIA fares are not affected by this change and this new fare structure is only applicable to Klang Valley for now.
