The end of 2022 is just one day away and here we are, another news of Malaysians personal data getting sold online by cybercriminals.

This time, around 13 million user data that are said to have come from Astro, Maybank, and Election Commission (SPR) have been offered openly on a forum that is often used as a place to buy and sell hacked databases.

The Communications and Digital Minister (KKD), Fahmi Fadzil tweeted and said that this is a serious allegation and he asked CyberSecurity Malaysia and Personal Data Protection Department (PDPD) to investigate and take actions.

Even Fahmi’s personal phone number was leaked and someone tried to scam him via WhatsApp.

Unfortunately, the person who tweeted this data breach incident didn’t cover up the names and personal information.

The SPR data being sold online is not really new because it has been happening for quite some time and we reported about this incident last month. Even SPR acknowledged this and they said they have reported it to the authorities.

But the hacker that is selling the data from Astro, Maybank, and SPR is not the same hacker that is selling SPR data that we reported previously.
