One of the biggest gripes when it comes to Android smartphones is that the company might not provide updates a couple of years later. Unlike Apple’s devices, Android devices receive sporadic update schedules, and imagine paying a few thousand ringgit for a flagship phone, only to be informed later that your phone will only receive a couple of years of updates.

So, if you are planning to get Oppo’s flagship phone next year, you don’t have to worry about it anymore (probably).

GSMArena reported that one of the biggest smartphone brands in China, Oppo, is promising that selected 2023 flagship smartphones will receive four OS updates and five years of security patches.

Just recently, Oppo rolled out ColorOS 13 to 33 smartphone models globally, which is 50% more than ColorOS 12. Unfortunately, if you bought a Oppo’s flagship phone this year, you are probably stuck with the existing three OS and four years of security updates.

Even their recently released Oppo Find N2 and Oppo Find N2 Flip phones will likely not be part of this new commitment.

Their sister company, OnePlus, also made a similar promise last month. But Samsung was the first company to offer this commitment when they made an announcement earlier this year.

Google on the other hand, only offers three OS and five years of security updates, considering their Pixel lineups are supposed to be Android’s iPhone.
