Just a few days ago, we reported that Fahmi Fadzil, the Minister of Communications and Digital (KKD) said that there will be good news regarding internet and phone charges soon for B40 and M40 groups. Today, he is finally ready to deliver the good news.

In a tweet by KKD, Fahmi unveils the “Pakej Perpaduan”, which is a prepaid mobile data plan that offers subscribers 30GB for RM30 over the course of six months.

CelcomDigi, Maxis, U Mobile, Telekom Malaysia, and YTL will be taking part in this initiative and the data plan will have a speed cap of 3Mbps.

The initiative is expected to begin in February 2023 and will be offered to young people, B40 communities, people with disabilities, senior residents, and veterans of the police and military. Fahmi said that the prepaid mobile plan will be offered at “Half the price, triple the speed.”

Additionally, he stated that the mobile data plan is the basic offering, with telcos having the freedom to add other services as they see fit.

I am confident that the steps taken by the ministry with strategic cooperation with telcos is in line with the unity government’s aim to reduce the cost of living and ensure connectivity.

Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil.

Currently, the cheapest prepaid mobile data plan is Yoodo. You can get 20GB high-speed data for just RM 20 per month and 30GB for RM 35. So, eligible individuals for the Pakej Perpaduan will only have to pay around RM 5 per month for six months.

Besides that, Fahmi also announced that fixed broadband users will receive good news at a later date, but no other details was provided.
