Scam calls are becoming more common nowadays. Personally, I receive a scam call once every few days. The best thing to do would be to ignore all these calls, and if you answer them, block their numbers afterwards. Scammers like to pretend they are calling from a bank, the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN), or the police and some are even pretending to be the Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) these days.

The Star reported that the ministry denied calling members of the public to let them know they were wanted by the police and they labelled the calls as scams and warned the public to be cautious of them.

Be cautious of phone calls claiming to be from the Communications and Digital Ministry saying that you are wanted by the police for committing crimes.

Always verify the authenticity of the call before divulging any of your personal details.

Additionally, the Ministry recommended anyone who was scammed to contact the CCID scam response centre at 03-2610-1559, 03-2610-1599, or 997 within 24 hours.

If you are really wanted by the police, nobody would call and tell you in advance. The authorities would just come and pick you up. If you pick up any calls and you don’t know what is going on, don’t share any information with them and just hang up.
