If there’s one thing that many people can’t live without these days, the answer is a smartphone. And it’s basically useless if you don’t subscribe to a telco plan, and some of the plans on offer today can be quite expensive. This is why the Communications and Digital Ministry is doing something about it.

The Vibes reported that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the telcos have been requested to conduct a research to satisfy the public’s need for less expensive telecommunications services, according to Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil.

I am holding talks with MCMC and telcos to explore ways to reduce costs. Many young people are hoping that the prices for internet and lines can be reduced. So I have asked them to look into what we can do now.

Maybe in the coming weeks, I will have a special announcement to make.

Communications and Digital Minister, Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi also stated that he was investigating the best options for enhancing service quality and resolving problems with 4G and 5G network reach in specific regions of the nation.

He added that Malaysia is still talking about 5G while other countries have already started exploring 6G and he will find ways to speed up the 5G rollout.

Just a few days ago, we reported that Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) states that the rollout of the 5G network is ahead of schedule and that it will have reached more than 40% of coverage of populated areas (COPA) throughout Malaysia by December 2022.
