Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) was created in March 2021 to spearhead the development of a 5G network and infrastructure in Malaysia. The previous administration under Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin appointed Ericsson as the sole network equipment provider at a cost of RM4 billion.

In a news report by the Malay Mail, the recently appointed Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, said his administration will review the 5G plans because it was not developed in a transparent manner.

The nation’s major telcos expressed worry regarding price, transparency, and monopoly due to the single-ownership of the spectrum.

Anwar remarked at a news conference following his first cabinet meeting that the 5G plans will be examined to make sure they fully adhered to procedures.

It needs to be reviewed because it was not done in a transparent manner.
