After a successful experience helping hundreds of Malaysians affected by floods earlier this year, Terato Tech Sdn. Bhd. has recently launched version 2.0 of KitaJaga with significant updates including an improved Banjir Watch campaign, in time for a new monsoon season hitting Malaysian shores.

Terato Tech is one of Malaysia’s leading application development companies based in Bangi, Selangor and they created KitaJaga in July 2021 as a benevolent project to help people who are in need in Malaysia.

KitaJaga 2.0 provides a safer environment where users now must register and create a profile before they can access the app. In addition, it also introduces a chat feature to allow users to contact those seeking help (Helpee) using a chat box without revealing phone numbers for privacy reasons.

From now on, KitaJaga makes Banjir Watch only accessible via its mobile app and no longer via its website. This move helps enhance the user experience by allowing them to quickly receive notifications of the flood situation right on their smartphone and get their pin location tagged more accurately..

Key new features introduced in Banjir Watch are:

Multiple-location Banjir Watch Notification: This feature allows users to monitor the flood situation in multiple locations using a single user profile. The app will push notifications of flood-affected areas every 15 minutes.

Twitter – KitaJaga Automated Pin: Anyone can now tweet for help on Twitter for KitaJaga app to create a pin. To use this feature, users must tag @banjirwatch. They will have to provide KitaJaga with only their name, location, and type of help needed and a pin will be created automatically on the KitaJaga app.

Organisation Helper: A feature that makes it simpler for organizations to launch their aid on KitaJaga by keying in the organization name when offering help.

We’re glad that our Banjir Watch campaign has been making positive impacts in our society. For instance, between December 2021 and June this year, our Banjir Watch campaign recorded 377 Helpee pins and 426 Helper pins in Shah Alam. We’ve improved the app to better serve our community, so I’d encourage our users to update KitaJaga on their smartphones to enjoy these new features immediately.

We hope to establish new collaborations including with government agencies so we can better address resident needs and coordinate rescue using information available through KitaJaga.

In addition to the above features, the KitaJaga Banjir Watch campaign also has new functionalities. For instance, the campaign now displays color-coded flood alerts for Alert, Warning, and Danger levels that will become visible as soon as the KitaJaga app is launched.

With the new updates, KitaJaga is ready to partner with NGOs, private firms, or governmental agencies for its Banjir Watch campaign.

The new KitaJaga Banjir Watch is available for Android and iOS devices.
