If you are planning to go back to your hometown to carry out your duty as a Malaysian this coming Saturday, but you are unable to get a ticket home, don’t worry. We have good news for you.
There’s a new carpool app in Malaysia and it is called Splyft (pronounced as Splift = Split + Lift). This app was just released yesterday, so there might not be that many options to choose from.
Najib said in his tweet that this app was developed by “Malaysian grads from France and inspired by BlaBlaCar – the most famous carpool apps in France and Europe.” He also added that this app is only available on Google Play Store with iOS availability coming soon.
According to Splyft FAQ, they don’t consider themselves to be an e-hailing service because they “focus on interstate trips with a higher distance and longer travelling time.”
Aside from that, they charge a flat rate service fee that is calculated based on fuel, tolls, and distance. The price that you see in the tweet above is per seat. If you want to be a driver, it takes 24 to 48 hours to get approval.
However, we couldn’t find any passenger and driver safety related information in the FAQ. We asked them about this, but we have not received any reply at the time of this writing. We will update this article once we have the answer.
If you are interested, you can download Splyft app at Google Play Store.
